You would think that after five weeks, the chanichim would know their madrichim pretty well. So we decided to test them with a “how well do you know your madrich” game! The game had a few rounds – two truths and a lie (about the madrichim), a madrich in Tzeirim trivia, and a “mad-lib” of Ira’s (that’s me) life story! After they came up with extremely interesting perspectives on my life, I told them the truth and shared with them how I ended where I am and who I am today.

We usually try to concentrate on learning Hebrew, but we made an exception with the word “spelunking”!This week, we started the Tzeirim caving trips! Each tzrif got (or will get) the opportunity to go on a trip to a nearby cave and go exploring! I got to go with the first tzrif, and it was a really cool experience to go deep under ground with twelve year olds – they were so loud they kept me from getting lost… Even without losing me, we managed to squeeze through tight spaces, spot each other while climbing up and down and chew life-savers in the dark with our mouths open – try it at home, something really cool happens!

Many of our chanichim are thinking about their future… We gave them an opportunity to prove their business sense in a peula styled after Donald Trump’s “The Apprentice”. The twist was they had to make a campaign, in Hebrew, about a way to improve Camp. Their ideas ranged from a fruit bar during breakfast, to a camp-wide volunteering day! Needless to say, no one got fired…

We continued to test them with a classic spelling bee! Well, maybe not the classic version – we had Hebrew in ours! They were very impressive, for a generation that grew up on spell checks and auto-correct… A highlight of the night was when an owl glided down right over our heads and we all stayed completely silent and amazed. Then we got to learn a new word – “yanshuf” (owl)!

We took a trip where we had the opportunity to play indoor games, and then as we were about to view a minor league baseball game….when the skies opened up and changed plans to viewing a 3-D movie!  Tzeirim continues to experience highlights throughout the summer and next week will be filled with more!!!

Shabbat Shalom!
