One of my favorite quotes from Israeli songwriter, Shlomo Artzi is:
“Etmol haya tov, yihiye gam machar” (Yesterday was good, tomorrow will be too”). This is Camp!
The past few days with your children have been amazing, and we know the rest of Camp will be too! After the first grilled cheese lunch of the summer, we introduced our tzevet (staff) to the chanichim (campers) by having them announced by an emcee and bursting out of huge posters like a pro football team!
Yom Revi’i (Wednesday) was all about getting back into our machane (camp) routine and we spent the day having our first classes, activities, sports and swim practices of the summer. The end of the day was a “the amazing race” scavenger hunt all over A-Side. Yom Chamishi (Thursday) was a very special day for me, as we had a peulat erev (evening activity) entitled “Ira’s Bar Mitzvah“! We dressed up, listened to a few hilarious toasts, had some fun dancing and a very interesting discussion about what it means to become a Bar/ Bat Mitzvah.
We are now looking forward to Shabbat “WE ARE FRED.” We are embracing our last summer on A-Side, what it means to be the oldest on A-Side and thus role models for the younger chanichim. And what better person for whom to name our Shabbat, than Rabbi Fred Elias, he who always misplaces his elephant! Shabbat Shalom!
