Solelim has spent much of the past week alone on Machaneh Bet, but we have surely made the most of it! On Saturday night and Sunday we bid farewell to Bogrim, Machon, and Gesher as they left for various out-of-camp trips, and then we took over B-side for ourselves. On Sunday night, we had a special peulat erev for which the chanichim were split up by boys and girls, and each group participated in a trust walk and other various activities to bring our edah closer together.
For our final dinner together before the other B-side edot returned, the madrichim prepared a special banquet. The chadar ochel was set up with nice tablecloths and streamers, there was a special menu, and the chanichim dressed up for a formal dinner. With the madrichim serving as their waiters, the chanichim were fed a three-course meal, which ended with a special dessert of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream! After dinner, we kicked off our Yom Daled, cleverly called Yom “There’s a Yom for That,” during which the chanichim’s favorite iPhone and Facebook applications, such as Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds, came to life. Also, our edah learned a dance to the hit so
ng ‘Rotze Banot,’ and performed it as a flash mob dance during Friday lunch as a surprise for the rest of Machaneh Bet.
Solelim also had the special honor this week of being the first edah in all of Camp to climb on Al Hagova’s new high ropes course. Several bunks had an opportunity to test out the ropes course, and all of the chanichim who went on it had a thrilling time! The rest of the edah is looking forward to sharing in the high ropes course experience in the upcoming weeks. For now, Solelim is ready for a restful Shabbat, with the theme of “Shabbat Yisrael.” Over Shabbat, we will take a closer look at what Israel means to us as the Jewish homeland, as well as investigate some of the contemporary issues that Israel faces. Shabbat Shalom!
