As Yom Orchim (Visiting Day) approaches, the chanichim are getting excited to see their families and guests, and the tzevet is looking forward to meeting everyone who comes. However, Solelim has certainly been keeping very busy until then. On Sunday, we premiered our machazeh (play) Guys and Dolls to rave reviews. The show highlighted the amazing talent the chanichim have as actors, singers, dancers, and musicians, and everyone was immensely impressed.
In addition to our play, there were many other exciting things going on in camp this week. On Wednesday, chanichim from Camp Ramah in New England came to play against our chug teams in sports. From playing basketball to soccer, volleyball to Scrabble, all of the chanichim played their best and had a wonderful time. Then we had our annual camp-wide Zimriyah on Thursday, where our edah sang their hearts out to the song “Yoshvim B’Beit Kafe” by the band Teapacks.
We are looking forward to the final Shabbat of the first month of Camp, which is “Shabbat Pop Culture.” Over Shabbat, Solelim will discuss the gap between mainstream culture today and traditional values, and think about how they can try to bridge that gap in their lives. It will surely be an interesting and enlightening Shabbat! L’hitraot!
