Solelim had a great first full week of Camp! We kicked off the week with a 4th of July concert on Sunday night, during which the chanichim were enthusiastically singing and dancing along with the songs. On Monday, thirteen Solelim campers set off on the first bike trip of the summer, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Over the rest of the summer another three groups will be sent out for bike trips, so everyone who wants to go will have the opportunity to do so! Additionally, we also began to learn our song for the Zimriyah, which is the popular hit “Yoshvim B’Beit Kafe” by the band Teapacks.
One of the highlights of the week for Solelim was our Yom Dalet, which was “Yom Soundtrack of Your Lives.” The madrichim planned activities that related to a top hit song from each year of the chanichim’s lives, and the chanichim had a great time racing each other in scooters, picking jelly beans out of fluff, and playing paint Twister with blue paint. It was great to see the chanichim having such a great time!
We are looking forward to a relaxing Shabbat after a busy week. This week our theme is focused on the topic of egalitarianism in the Conservative Movement. One of the changes that occurs as campers move from Machaneh Aleph to Machaneh Bet is that they have the opportunity to choose between the “Im” minyan, in which women take on leadership roles, and the “Bli” minyan, in which women do not. We think that this Shabbat will be a wonderful opportunity to discuss the ideologies between these two minyanim and allow our campers to make educated decisions about the minyan they go to. We look forward to it being an interesting Shabbat full of great discussions!
