Machon had quite a lovely week settling back into life at Camp. Immediately following a great Shabbat, all campers and staff joined together to do havdalah and usher in Chashi, the half-week of Israeli activities. Our campers got to enjoy blue and white face paint, falafel during lunch and became experts at the special “chashi dance”. Aside from being extremely excited about Chashi, we all learned the edah song together. The song is sung to the tune of Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” and Machon loves singing it whenever we can!
On Tuesday, Machon and Gesher campers traveled to Lakewood, PA to visit Camp Ramah in the Poconos for a day of informal sports competitions. The chanichim from both camps had the opportunity to hang out, play a variety of games and eat lunch together. Everyone agreed that this was a terrific new tradition and one that we are excited about getting to do next year.
Wednesday, Machon “tuned in” for Yom MTV Throwback- or, a day dedicated to activities based on shows on that channel. The edah was split into famous Camp TV families and groups, such as the Simpsons, The Osbournes, Machon Staff and the Cast of Harry Potter. Each group was given an egg to name, decorate and keep safe for the day. They then made music videos with their groups and were “MADE” into various occupations- like Kitchen Staff, Yoga Instructor, Princess, and many more.
Thursday, our edah took in the Bogrim play, “Grease” and cheered on the actors and singers in the production. Today, our Shabbat theme is “We Are Who We Are,” where we will be discussing all different types of people who are not always accepted in mainstream society. Topics like self-confidence, individuality and mutual acceptance and understanding will be discussed and we hope that the chanichim take much away from this Shabbat.
