And we’re off! Machon 2011 officially began on Tuesday when our nine terrific tzevet members greeted our fabulous and energetic sixty-six chanichim. We spent the first day unpacking and decorating our six tzrifim and then had a delicious dinner together. Within the first few hours of getting here, our edah was treated to a special slideshow and step dance made by our tzevet. Afterwards, chanichim enjoyed our first peulat erev of the summer- “MachSmorg” (or Machon Smorgasbord), a special meet and greet activity complete with home-made desserts!
Wednesday, Camp really got into high gear- chanichim swam in the agam, sang during shira, played football and ultimate frisbee and even made yummy food in the mitbachon. That night for Peulat Erev we had a Machon initiation where we walked to the golf course and wrote our “Edah 10 Commandments” or rules/doctrines that we want to live by this summer. After the “initiation,” we were treated to a bonfire and learned our edah song. On Thursday, we announced our edah play, West Side Story and watched the movie. Everyone is looking forward to Shabbat and our theme of “Facebook” where we will be discussing issues involving friendship, Jewish values and social media and to next week, where more surprises are in store for our great edah!
