Gesher 2011 continues to impress me everyday. They continue to learn and grow in their roles as CIT’s, and ozrim.
This Shabbat was planned by the Gesher chanichim on Va’ad Shabbat. The theme for the entire Camp was Conservative Judaism. Va’ad shabbat changed the name to the “Times They Are A Changing.” The chanichim talked about changing halacha and what situations you should and should not. For example, we discussed the different opinions of egalitarianism and if the chanichim thought women should be counted in a minyan, if they should become rabbis and have to fulfill all time-bound mitzvoth. The conversations flowed freely and the chanichim were responding very positively to the Shabbat that was planned by their peers.
On Tuesday, we woke up very early in the morning to the load the buses to Camp Ramah in the Poconos. We played many games of friendly competition with another Ramah camp. It was a great site to see the Machon and Gesher chanichim interacting with Ramah Poconos chanichim with whom they will be on Seminar with next year. Who knows, they may even go to college with them in a couple of years! Even though we won some games and lost others, we had an amazing time and hope to continue the tradition of play Ramah Poconos in sports.
Wednesday’s activities were planned by the Gesher chanichim on Va’ad Yom Dalet. The theme was “Yom Surfing the Channel.” Each activity was related to a TV show. The chanchim were divided into team to have a cupcake decorating competition based on the show Cup Cake Wars. Gesher chanichim were dressed to the nines so they could do their best impersonation of Tyra Banks at our fashion show inspired by America’s Next Top Model.
This week has been jammed back with lots of peulot. The Gesher chanichim are hard at work planning more amazing peulot for the edah. My tzevet and I are so proud of Gesher and cannot wait for another amazing week.
