It has been a great week in Gesher! Our Shabbat was relaxing and enjoyable and we had great discussions about what inspires us.The chanichim each had to write down what inspires them on Friday and then we shared them anonymously on Saturday. It was so nice to hear how honest and open everyone was. On Sunday night, there was a 4th of July concert held in Beit Am Bet. Gesher danced their hearts out and sang all of the lyrics to “American Pie” and “Himnon Ramah.”
Our Gesher Al Hagova experience took place on Tuesday and Wednesday. We went on a two day camping trip in New Paltz, New York, where the campers enjoyed kayaking, hiking, and rock climbing. We all learned to really challenge and push ourselves. Camping out as an entire edah was a true bonding experience that brought us together in a really tangible way.
Gesher campers have now had a few experiences as Counselors in Training (CIT) and I have been really impressed by their leadership skills. Gesher tzevet members have been facilitating hadracha (CIT Training) during the past week. We met by CIT edah and related the parasha this week to CITing as we role-played different situations that they might encounter while being a counselor. They were quick to understand and appreciate how much the rest of camp is looking up to them and have been taking their status as role models for A-Side campers seriously. I am excited to see them continue to grow in this capacity and make a real difference this summer for our younger chanichim.
