Edat HaGesher has really demonstrated camp leadership this week! This past Sunday was JV Palmer day and Yom Bogrei Ramah. Our Gesher chanichim were at each of the games cheering loudly in support of the Bogrim and Solelim campers. Meeting Gesher 2003 alumni was one of those “aha” moments witnessing, first hand, the value of lifetime friendships and memories that began at CRB ten years ago.
On Monday evening we commemorated Tisha B’Av with a meaningful peulah lead by Rabbi Kane. Each chanich traveled back in time studying accounts of the Shoah, Spanish Inquisition, Crusades, and the burning of the Second Ttemple. Ending with an inspiring fire which represented the fire of our past and the nair taamid, the hope for our future. Throughout Tisha B’Av we spent time reflecting on the different reasons for the destruction of the temple, yarn bombing the walls of Jerusalem, and discussing the feelings of loss and rebuilding.
The end of the week was extremely exciting for Gesher. Our Vaad Tzedakah planned an extreme gaga tournament for all of Machaneh Bet with proceeds going to the Jewish Disaster Response Corps (JDRC:http://jdrcorps.org/ ). Founded by a Ramah Berkshires alum, the JDRC is an organization that sends Jewish groups to help rebuild and support national communities struck by natural disaster. The chanichim felt most connected to this organization after their personal experiences with Hurricane Sandy this year. Finally, Gesher performed in Thursday night’s rikkudiah with an unforgettable couples dance.
As always we welcome Shabbat with open arms ready for time to recharge our batteries for Visiting Day and in anticipation of an incredible week ahead!
